  Parenting is crucial to a childs life, what a parent acts towards the child will reflect towards the childs personality and attitude. If you were to just yell to a child for having commit a mistake it will result in a negative feedback which may affect the childs self esteem and possibly its perspective towards life. He/she may become rebellious or violent. Instead of yelling and imposing punishment towards the child, try a softer approach which is to truly understand the situation, explain to the child the consequences of his/her action calmy instead of yelling instantly.
